Arriving in Rome at 11:00am, we will head straight to the Colosseum, one of the greatest icons of the ancient world. This impressive monument has 4 million visitors annually and was proclaimed, along with six other exceptional sites, as one of the “new wonders” of the world. We will continue our tour to the Triumphal Arch of Costantine before passing by the important and fascinating archeological site of the Roman Forum which was the center of Roman public life for several centuries as well as an administrative and commercial center. At the end of the Forum we arrive at Campidoglio hill, one of the seven hills Rome was founded on. Below the Campidoglio hill is Piazza Venezia home to one of Rome’s most impressive landmarks, the dominating white marble Il Vittoriano.
After taking some time for lunch and shopping on Via del Corso, we will continue our tour moving forward in history from ancient Rome to the splendor of the architecture of Baroque Rome, starting with the glorious Trevi Fountain before heading over the Pantheon, Rome’s best preserved and most copied ancient monument. From the Pantheon we will be able to enjoy Piazza Navona, with its three grand fountains that were part of the city’s main market for 300 years.
From there we will head onto the famous Piazza di Spagna, one of the most majestic examples of Roman Baroque style and an area which has been a popular tourist attraction since the Renaissance period. Our tour culminates in Piazza San Pietro. We will arrive back in Florence at around 10:30pm.
